Registration: Dr Ravi Chandra Vattipalli · Andhra Pradesh Medical Council registration no. APMC073008

His research and publications span paediatric orthopaedics and robotic surgery. See Achievements and teaching for the faculty record and publication list.

His clinical approach emphasises careful examination, clear information, respectful consent and practical rehabilitation planning. Non-surgical options and conventional surgery are used when they are more appropriate than robotic assistance.

Education and training

Dr Ravi Chandra Vattipalli completed orthopaedic postgraduate training at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore, under Prof. Rajasekaran and Dr Ajoy Shetty, and holds the DNB (Orthopaedics) qualification. Further fellowships and training:

  • Limb lengthening and deformity correction, Chaudhary Trust Hospital, Akola, under Dr Milind Chaudhary.
  • Paediatric orthopaedics and joint preservation surgery, National University Hospital, Singapore (2012), with Prof. James Hui.
  • Paediatric limb reconstruction and deformity correction, Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne (2013), under Prof. Ian Torode and Kerr Graham.
  • Pelvic and acetabular osteotomies and hip preservation surgery, Inselspital, Berne, Switzerland (2017).
  • Robotic knee replacement visit, February 2024.
  • Direct anterior approach (DAA) hip replacement training, Genk Hospital, Belgium, September 2026.

Mentorship from Prof. Leo Donnan and Chris Harris developed his interest in arthroplasty and in integrated paediatric and adult orthopaedic care.

Awards and recognitions

  • Prof. M. Natarajan Gold Medal for Best Paper, TNOA, Coimbatore, 2009.
  • Third place, quiz competition, TNOACON, 2009.
  • Best Resident’s Medal 2011 (Prof M V Daniel).

Professional journey

  • Robotic Knee Surgeon at Care Hospitals, Visakhapatnam, since November 2024.
  • Robotic Knee Surgeon at Apollo Hospitals, Visakhapatnam, December 2022 to November 2024.
  • Earlier practice in Visakhapatnam (SG Ortho Care): Assistant Professor, GIMSR, and consultant, August 2013 to November 2022.
  • Fellowship training, November 2011 to August 2013.

Velys robotic knee replacement was introduced into his practice in March 2024. His work includes Velys robotic planning for selected knee replacements, alongside non-surgical options and conventional surgery when those are more appropriate. Patients are supported with clear explanations and a measured recovery pathway.

He has described the use of Google Glass in minimally invasive fracture fixation and of hexapod frames for deformity correction. He also contributes to teaching, clinical research and community education in orthopaedic care, and holds clinics at Maa Sharada CP Clinic for children with cerebral palsy.

Care Hospitals supports patients through assessment, treatment and follow-up, with referrals and coordinated care when another specialist or service is more suitable.

Areas of practice

Knee

Velys robotic total knee replacement when clinically suitable, with non-surgical and conventional options discussed first.

Hip

Direct anterior approach (DAA) hip replacement when judged suitable. Robotic hip is on the roadmap and is not a live service.

Paediatric and deformity

Paediatric orthopaedics and deformity correction, from limb lengthening for fibular hemimelia to complex corrections.

Research and innovation

Dr Ravi Chandra Vattipalli’s current research examines robotic surgery, recovery times and the learning curve associated with new technologies. His work also includes a study on tibialis posterior tendon transfer in paediatric orthopaedic care.
